After starting his career in 1992, Sandaruwan enhanced his work capacity and knowledge significantly where he won his first award for the Best Musical Program of the year award at UNDA Tele Awards in 1995. Then again in the year 2002 he won the award for the Best Musical Program of the year at Sumathi Tele Awards. Sandaruwan won the State Award for Best Music Video Director of the year in 2008 and also nominated and won the best music video director of the year at Sumathi Tele Awards in the same year, 2008. Then Again in 2009 his music video titled “Kichi Bichiyata Gee Gayanna” won the State Award for Best Musci Video of the year 2009. Sandaruwan nominated at State Awards for Best Music Direction in the year 2010. Then again in the year 2013 he got nominated at State Awards for best Visual Art Song of the year.
Sanda’s tele drama titled ‘Rana’ held the record for winning 03 main “Most Popular” awards at Raigam Tele’es Awards by making the year 2014 memorable for him. He won the award for the Most Popular Tele Drama of the year, while his lead actor, award-winning Jagath Chamila (won the award for the Best Actor at New York International Film festival for his portrayal of Sami in Samige Kathava) & Asha Edirisingha won the Most Popular actor & actress of the year awards. The teledrama won many awards including Best Singing, Best Makeup Artist, Skill Award in Acting, Skill Award in Camera. Sandaruwan was known for his remarkable work in Sri Lankan Television Reality show format by introducing authenticity to those programs. This made him winning the Best reality Program of the year for his “Youth with Talent” program at DS Brand Awards 2017/2018.
